The castle is the venue for artistic and cultural events.<br>The external structure features an exposed brick fa\u00e7ade, with ogival mullioned openings incorporating stone jambs, tufa ashlars and lava stone.<br>In ancient times, the castle was guarded by two rows of crossbowmen who stood on the wall battlements, equipped with artillery pieces, and there were twelve bronze cannons around it called \u2018the twelve apostles\u2019.
